Not like dutch people are common in gw common channels...

/sarcasm

The thing is we don't need dutch districts, since almost all dutch people can write english. I'm already happy with common districts, as in there we can speak dutch so now and not get scolded by english fanboys that we shouldn't speak dutch in all chat of a english channel..

Now i know it's rude to speak dutch in the common channels, but hey it's common districts now and we might like to speak dutch for a change.

overall /notsigned and for those that say dutch people aren't a majority check this thread and the dutch ppl replying

Most older players, except a unlucky few, have a fair knowledge of the English language. It's (or used to be) a mandatory language in most types of education.
Meaning the Dutch district would be filled with all the kids that did not have sufficient English lessons in school yet.

Please, please, please, I want this Dutch district
O didn't think of that, Please make a dutch district, then i know which one to stay out of

Well, thats is debatable which we wont do here of course. Only want to state that most people who are PC/Game-literate are able to communicate in English.

That was exactly the outcome of the debate on the Dutch GW website! Still, I dont favor a Dutch district, although it is tempting

I know. Apologies, it was just a brilliant opportunity to make some funny translations Still, I think the point is clear. No need for a Dutch district for various reasons.

"Kan ik een genezend zaadje krijgen op 2?"
"Spam afleveringslicht meer, we hebben bijna geen levenspunten meer!"

I would be up for translating them, since I studied languages. And I'm sure even more people would be up for a Dutch translation, even if it's just for giggles.

Pissed in my pants here. If anyone should make a dutch version it should be you ^^.

BTW no dutch stuff needed imo. Yes and quite some dutch people can be extremely arrogant and expressive. while sometimes funny, people from the Netherlands should also learn when to stop fooling around. In the western parts they often have problems with that, I've lived all over the Netherlands so i know most differences. Most people where I live do speak English though, maybe not fluent, but good enough to make them understandable. Hell, so much of them speak English that they prevent my partner to learn to speak Dutch, because most of them switch to English when they notice a foreign accent.

Im also Dutch , and feel no need for a dutch district. Maybe it is a idea to start up Google and type in : Cursus Engels voor Beginners ...
Leave Guild Wars alone for six months , return , and enjoy the game again ... ..

I'm not Dutch, But I have no problems speaking about matter that effect the dutch community.

I think its best if we keep people together as much as possible, in euro channels the common is strangely full of non english chat. Type in dutch and attract dutch speaking people.

Second matter I feel the ducth people should bring to the attention of the larger community is the abuse of the song pass the dutch! What is it that the dutch pass?! hmm perhaps another time.

by the way isn't your prince married to an Aussie chick? His kids are going to be Aussie royals now that is awesome!

Dutch district? errr.... no thanks... force the ones that don't know english to learn english just so they can play the game.

I myself didn't have a grand vocabulary at age 13, but at least I tried to be understandable. When I look back at the posts I made in the past on forums, I'd like to take my katana and chop my fingers off.

Anyways, yea, no dutch district, no use for one. Go back to school lazy bum.

I believe that the last time Gaile commented on this issue, it was said that so many dutch people know English, there's no need for it. A lot of germans/french/italians can't speak English.

No he is married to an argentinian one. It was a major problem as the father was involved in extermination of people who owned small pieces of grounds and didnt want to work for big farms. They were supposedly thrown from helicopters. The videla regime was known for its crualty, but like our royals they are from descent which say "Ich habe es nicht gewuBt". (no offense intended to germans not involved). Even worse they both denied his involvement in anything. I hope for the mothers and families truth will show up once.

BTW the Dutch royal house is a present from the english one, we were a republic before (supported by the French), but the english installed this royal house to gain influence.

There should be an Australian District, because that would allow me to easily talk to fellow Australians, without the constrains of words such as 'color', 'favor' and various other spelling/grammar issues within quests and mission. Why talk Australian to my Australian friends, when I can have a whole district devoted to it? Tell me, why?

Seriously...this is the stupidest idea ever. 10 people does not a district make.

would be funny as if only it wasn't painfully true, was cursed out in LA once for using 'U' in armour. Some random PMed me for about 10mins with a rant about learning to spell. :S. I explained in my country we use the letter u where its meant to go, only reply I got was going back to your own country then... any guess where this guy was from?! lol I laughed for the rest of the day.

Ok, now for a more serious respond why I think there is no reason for a Dutch district.

Most important, children at the age of 12, the age mentioned on my box as far as I remember, had at least 2 years of English education.
I think even children in special education (for children having difficulties with learning) receive basic English education.
While this is not sufficient to write and read all that is said in the game, it's a start.
For common gameplay there is no need for advanced knowledge of the English language. In pugs that are not chatting, the only words beside target calling and pings on the map seem to be 3 or 4 letter abbreviations with various meanings.
There is some Guild Wars slang you have to learn, but that's with every online community.

This is also a bit of an answer to The High Lord's statements regarding the bad knowledge of the English language (while I did not write it as direct reply to that).

Dutch language could be important in a guild.
When you want to recruit, you just say "Nederlandse guild lf leden" (Dutch guild looking for members) and when you are seeking a guild: "lf Nederlandse guild" (should be obvious).
If there are Dutch players /officers that are interested, they will find you.
If you think you don't have sufficient knowledge of the English language, please join a Dutch guild. Not all of them are filled with young people, some just find it easier to communicate in Dutch.

I do understand that some Dutch players have problems with the English language. After all, it's not their native language and you need to know some specific words sometimes.
But it's not that hard to say "Hey, I'm a foreigner, could you explain this/that?".
Even I have to do that sometimes (mostly in alliance chat) and I think I have a fair knowledge of the English language.

I take GREAT offence in your reply to the op You'd better put on your flame free fest, otherwise prepared to get burned.

People in holland get most American Series on tv which are subtitled and not dubbed. (thank god for that). That's how children first get their english. Then in high school (Middelbare school in dutch) they have to graduate in 1 foreign language (which is almost allways English). At the university, because of the bachelor / master system all classes are in English. Hell even I have my windows xp in english and not in dutch. So please don't make presumptions.

@OP Ga naar school en leer eens een keer wat daar, luiwammes.
